It seems as though ever since the Internet found out that former The Cosby Show actor Geoffrey Owens also has an honest 9-to-5 job at Trader Joes, commentary has fallen on either side of the fence. Aside from Fox News taking a dig at him, a majority of those viewpoints, however, are in support and defense of Owens’ steady paycheck. During his sit-down with Good Morning America‘s Robin Roberts, Owens thanked people for their outpouring support and shared that we have no reason to feel sorry for him because he’s had a great life and a rewarding career.
Malcolm-Jamal Warner, agrees. The Resident actor took to Instagram to not only express his joy over the positive social media reactions but also defend the work and honor of his former Cosby Show co-star.
“What people don’t know about Geoffrey is that not only did he graduate cum laude from Yale, but he is an accomplished theater actor (pre and post-Cosby),” Warner said. “His intimate knowledge of Shakespeare as an actor and director puts many of us to shame. And in a way, we should thank Fox News and the miserable f**ks for their attempt to job shame him. With the love and support he’s getting from everybody, he’s about to get more work.”
He further elaborated on the ebbs and flows of working in the entertainment business, and how Owens is noble to stay ahead of it to continue to provide for himself and his family.
“Trader Joe’s is not a career change, you dumbf**ks out there, it’s a placeholder gig that allows flexibility to go on auditions and then to take time off to go work when booking said auditions,” Warner continued. “An actor’s life is a series of ups and downs.”
