Rapper M.I.A has been ordered not to take her four-year-old son, Ihkyd, out of Brooklyn after a temporary restraining order was filed by her ex-boyfriend and child’s father Benjamin Bronfman.
Bronfman, the son of music mogul and Seagrams heir Edgar Bronfman Jr., claims that M.I.A. has threatened to take their son back to her native London without his consent.
M.I.A. and Bronfman have had a rocky relationship since their split last year, with the rapper accusing her ex’s family of trying “to take my child away from me,” via Twitter. According to the NY Post’s Page Six, M.I.A. posted a rant to the social network that has since been deleted:
“THE BRONFMANS WANT TO TAKE MY CHILD AWAY FROM ME. WHAT KIND OF [bleep] IS THAT? THEY NEVER SEE HIM.” She wrote. “Every child needs the MOTHER, I GREW UP WITHOUT A DAD. If (I) grew up without my mother i wouldn’t be here.”
The newspaper also received word from an anonymous source regarding details about the two’s feud, stating that M.I.A is at fault for Bronfman’s legal action.
“M.I.A has been texting and calling Ben, saying she will take their son to London, even though they both live in Brooklyn and the child goes to school there,” the source said. “Ben filed a motion for a temporary restraining order preventing her from taking their son to the UK against his wishes.”
Neither Bronfman nor M.I.A. have commented on the story as yet.
