Michelle Obama‘s memoir Becoming is one of the most highly-anticipated releases of the year. According to the Associated Press, the former First Lady’s book, which was released just last week, has already sold 1.4 million copies in digital and print formats.
“Based on demand from retailers across all channels, the publisher has printed 3 million hardcover copies in North America,” they write. “On its first day, the book sold more than 725,000 copies, making it one of the year’s biggest debuts.”
Mrs. Obama’s memoir is split into three sections: Becoming Me, Becoming Us, and Becoming More. Mrs. Obama discusses her life growing up in Chicago’s South Side and her relationship with the 44th President of the U.S., Barack Obama. Additionally, she reveals her struggles with fertility and a miscarriage as well as her issues with 45, Donald Trump.
“[The birther controversy] was also dangerous, deliberately meant to stir up the wingnuts and kooks,” Mrs. Obama writes. “What if someone with an unstable mind loaded a gun and drove to Washington? What if that person went looking for our girls? Donald Trump, with his loud and reckless innuendos, was putting my family’s safety at risk. And for this, I’d never forgive him.”
