King of pop Michael Jackson will finally be laid to rest in California’s famed Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
According to the Associated Press, Jackson’s private funeral will take place around 7 p.m. Thursday evening at the cemetery’s Great Mausoleum, which also house stars Clark Gable and W.C. Fields. The burial expenses will be paid by Jackson’s estate and though the amount is undisclosed it’s been reported to be “extraordinary.”
“They may not be appropriate for an ordinary person,” Jeryll S. Cohenbut, a legal rep for Jackson’s estate, said of the funeral costs, “but Michael Jackson was not ordinary.”
Police services alone, is estimated to be around $150,000. Jackson’s estate attorneys were ordered to appear before a Los Angeles judge on Wednesday, to have all costs approved. Though details of the funeral are undisclosed, the ceremony will feature a performance by Jackson’s longtime friend, Gladys Knight.
On August 31, the Los Angeles Coroner’s Office ruled the singer’s death a homicide. Police are currently investigating Jackson’s longtime physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, who admitted to injecting Jackson with Ativan and propofol hours before the singer’s death. Toxicology reports reveal Jackson died of “acute propofol intoxication.” —Linda Hobbs
