The step-granddaughter of actor Morgan Freeman, 33-year-old E’Dena Hines was stabbed to death early Sunday morning (Aug. 16) in New York City’s Washington Heights. And previously unidentified man who was arrested on the scene has now been named as her 30-year-old boyfriend, Lamar Davenport, according to People.
Hines was found with multiple stab wounds in her torso outside of an apartment building on 162nd Street near St. Nicholas Avenue. One eyewitness, George Hudacko, told CBS News that he heard the couple arguing from his window at approximately 2 a.m. Likening the killing to an “exorcism,” Hudacko recalled hearing “‘Devil, be gone, Jesus and God,’” as Davenport delivered the blows. Another witness, Patrick Curry, said Davenport was kneeling over Hines “screaming about ‘God has arisen.”
Hines was rushed to Harlem Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Freeman took to Facebook to thank the masses for their condolences in light of the tragedy.
“I want to acknowledge the tremendous outpouring of love and support my family has received regarding the tragic and senseless passing of my granddaughter Edena Hines. Thank you from the bottom of my heart,” he wrote.
Davenport was charged with second-degree murder.
