When Common and The Roots came to Atlanta over the weekend for the Hennessy Artistry series, they brought along special guests that caught the backpack hip-hop crowd by surprise: Boyz II Men.
Though the popular Artistry series is all about “blending,” no one expected the former platinum-selling Philly group that helped put ’90s New Jack Swing on the map to make an appearance.
The series, which included sets by Amerie and Canadian singer Anjulie, was hosted by Common, who performed the hits “Used to Love H.E.R.” and “The Light.”
Boyz II Men, backed by The Roots’ drummer Questlove, performed the group’s classics “End Of The Road” and “Motown Philly.”
The show marks another recent appearance from the group, which has also performed on Dancing With the Stars and at the Utah and Oklahoma State Fairs.
The crooning quartet is currently planning to drop a cover album in November. –Linda Hobbs
