Hearts sank as news spread that R&B singer Natalie Cole passed at the age of 65. While the news was released, little information was provided in regards to her passing until now as the beloved singer’s family has revealed her cause of death. According to information obtained by ABC News, the “When I Fall In Love” singer died from heart failure brought on by diopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension (IPAH). The information was confirmed by her family.
It was previously revealed that Cole had other medical complications, to which she received a kidney transplant, after being diagnosed with Hepatitis C in 2009. While the surgery was successful, she was soon after diagnosed with IPAH.
“This is a very serious and progressive disorder. [Cole] responded well to PAH-specific agents over many years, during which she performed many concerts world-wide, but eventually succumbed to intractable right heart failure, an outcome that unfortunately commonly occurs in this progressive disorder, despite modern therapies.” Cole’s family said in the statement.
Unfortunately, the singer had to cancel many of her final shows in late December and February. But in light of this loss, fans can revisit her greatest hits such as “This Will Be” and “Unforgettable.”
