In yet another blow for the presidential candidate and America’s most loathed billionaire, Donald Trump, NBC chose to cut ties with the mouthy business magnate due to his derogatory comments about Mexican immigrants.
According to CNN, the network said in a statement that it would indefinitely be terminating its business relationship with Trump, who also hosted the NBC series The Celebrity Apprentice.
“AT NBC, respect and dignity for all people are cornerstones of our values,” the statement read. “Due to the recent derogatory statements by Donald Trump regarding immigrants, NBCUniversal is ending its business relationship with Mr. Trump.”
The breakup follows NBC’s cancellation of its Miss USA and Miss Universe pageant coverage, where star contestants such as Roselyn Sanchez backed out after hearing Trump refer to Mexican immigrants as “rapists” and “drug dealers.” Though organizers of the pageants are moving forward with the contests, they now fall short of a television broadcaster.
You would think after so much backlash, Trump would humble himself and retract his statements. Instead, he had a few choice words for NBC and those that don’t agree with his brash statements. Bashing anchor Brian Williams and defending his claims, Trump released a rebuttal statement for NBC:
“If NBC is so weak and so foolish to not understand the serious illegal immigration problem in the United States, coupled with the horrendous and unfair trade deals we are making with Mexico, then their contract violating closure of Miss Universe/Miss USA will be determined in court,” Trump jabbed back. “Furthermore, they will stand behind lying Brian Williams, but won’t stand behind people that tell it like it is, as unpleasant as that may be.”
Sorry, Trump, you’re fired.
