No cops involved in the incident that took the life of 23-year-old Korryn Gaines earlier this year in Baltimore will be charged with a crime, WBAL-TV in Maryland reports.
The report reads, “A statement from The Gordon Law Group said attorneys with their office and The Law Office of Jimmy M. Bell will meet with Baltimore County State’s Attorney Scott Shellenberger Wednesday, for him to advise the family that he completed his monitoring of the police investigation into the killing of Korryn Gaines and will not be filing criminal charges against any of the officers involved.”
The officer who fired the fatal shot was Officer First Class Ruby, a 16-year member of the department who was also involved in a shooting in August 2007. He and another tactical officer shot at a suicidal 24-year-old man in Parkville, MD, who suffered from bipolar disorder; the shooting was rendered legally justifiable.
Gaines’ family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the state of Maryland after her death in August. The suit disputes that the cops involved in the fatal six-hour standoff “ran out of patience” and shot the woman in addition to injuring her 5-year-old son. The standoff was due to the police carrying out arrest warrants against Gaines for failure to appear in court for cases related to a March 2016 traffic stop.
