It has been more than two years since Remy Ma began serving her eight-year prison sentence for two charges of assault. Yet her husband, rapper Papoose, says he has good reason to hope she’ll be home before summer.
“I can’t speak about it in detail due to legal reasons, but we just recently got some great news concerning her second appeal” Papoose told VIBE. “Let’s just say that she’s blessed.”
If Remy is denied an appeal, the Bronx native would serve four more years before she could be released on parole in September 2014. Pap is confident that she’ll be a free woman much sooner, though.
“I highly doubt she will have to serve the full time,” he says of Remy, who was convicted on assault, weapons possession and attempted coercion charges in March 2008. “If justice is served, then she will come home now. My plan is to see her walk out of that hellhole and get a breath of fresh air so we can enjoy life.”
Until then, Papoose says he’ll continue visiting his missus every other day.
“Men always complain that when they are incarcerated, woman don’t support them. But when I visit one of my homies in jail, the visiting floor is crowded with woman,” Papoose says. “But when I visit my wife, the visiting floor is empty. You have to support [incarcerated women] 10 times more than you would expect them to support you.” —Starrene Rhett
