Harlem’s very own A$AP Rocky and A$AP Mob brought out a myriad of New York City’s rap fans to Manhattan’s Best Buy Theater on Thursday night (July 23). There were plenty of Millennials of all races at Peter Rosenberg’s fourth annual PeterPalooza concert. The sold out venue was on tilt for acts like the A$AP Mob, Remy Banks, Vic Mensa, Bodega Bamz and more.
With host Larry Legend, draped in a black Tuxedo, providing laughs, he set the party off by introducing the opening acts. But it was Bodega Bamz — who rocked a Department of Corrections jumpsuit — that started the lituatation. He had fans rapping every word to “Billy Bats” and “Woopy Woop Blahzay Blah,“ both off Bamz’ recently released album Sidewalk Exec. Also, the energetic crowd turned up for Vic Mensa’s “Feel That” and his infectious verse from his Kanye West-assisted “U Mad.”
However, the five boroughs and New Jersey had the most fans out to see A$AP Rocky and The Mob, and they let it be known as concertgoers grew impatient by chanting “Rocky, Rocky, Rocky.” After listening to birthday boy Rosenberg profess his love for hip-hop, the clock struck 10 PM, and the beat dropped to “Hella Hoes” with Twelvvy and Nast taking the stage — as a mosh pit erupted in the front row. All the members of the Mob made it, and rolled through fan favorites like Ant’s “Set That Bitch Off and Nast’s “Trillmatic.”
Dressed in all black, with a delightful smile, Rocky controlled the crowd with his every move. It seemed as if New York City confirmed that Flacko’s music is showing the world that you can be yourself and step outside of the boundaries while still being successful.
Visiting his recently released At.Long.Last.A$AP album, that self-proclaimed Pretty Muthaf*cka slayed performances of “M’s,” “LSD” and “Lord Pretty Flacko Jody 2,” which caused straight pandemonium. Being that I was sober, I could only imagine what the euphoria and energy would of felt like if I got trippy.
A$AP Ferg also banged out his solo gems, “Shaba,” and “Werk,” and even go a little emo by stating that he didn’t want the night to end: “Y’all don’t understand. I haven’t performed with my brothers in years,” he yelled through the mic.
Rocky closed out the night with cuts “Wild For The Night,” and “Peso.” But it seemed like none of the Mob members wanted the event to come to a close. They even stayed on stage to dance to a couple of Young Thug tracks. It was nothing but crew love.
