One petitioner came up with a popular idea in case you’re not a fan of The Star-Spangled Banner. According to HipHopDX, a petition was created to switch out the Francis Scott Key melody for Juelz Santana and Cam’ron’s 2003 hit, “Dipset Anthem.”
Asking for 10,000 signatures, nearly 2,000 people have signed the request so far. The Heatmakerz produced track was featured on The Diplomats’ album, Diplomatic Immunity, which also hosted the remix to Cam’s hit, “Hey Ma.”
This news to change the country’s anthem follows the bold and brave stand by San Francisco 49ers QB, Colin Kaepernick, who made headlines this week for not pledging allegiance during a preseason game against the Green Bay Packers.
In a statement that he issued after the exhibition, Kaepernick said he refuses to salute a “flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color. This is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”
The 49ers organization also issued a statement on Kaepernick’s game-changing decision, writing, “In respecting such American principles as freedom of religion and freedom of expressions, we recognize the right of an individual to choose to participate, or not, in our celebration of the national anthem.”
