A Texas teen who just learned she was expecting her first child, was fatally struck by a train last week while taking maternity photos.
Witnesses say Fredzania “Zanie” Thompson was crossing the tracks to avoid an oncoming train when she was struck by another one coming from the opposite direction. The photographer with Thompson was not hurt.
The Blinn College student, who would’ve turned 20 on Monday, was pronounced dead while en route to a local hospital. Thompson’s fiance, 25-year-old Darnell Chatman said the couple learned they were expecting two weeks prior. Although Thompson loved being in front of the camera, her mother Hakamie Stevenson said her daughter earned several athletic scholarships while in high school. “She was more interested in modeling,” Stevenson said. “That’s definitely what she wanted to do. It’s what she had started to do the day she was deceased.”
Stevenson described her daughter as a role model to her five younger siblings and said she loved dabbling in hair and make up and was generous with her time. “She was very helpful to her siblings,” Stevenson recalled. “She was very outgoing, and made sure that everything was taken care of with them. She was a leader.”
A Go Fund Me account has been established to help pay for the funeral costs.
