As one of the selected performers at the upcoming 2015 The Roots Picnic (handpicked by Questlove), singer/rapper Marc E. Bassy cues up his new EP with VIBE.com. Though the project was inspired by some of the toughest times in his young life, the musician says he created his most powerful work yet.
“After going through a lot of major transitions in life I made this project,” Marc says. “Leaving my band that I had been in for almost 10 years was a major blow, and the breakup with my girlfriend was tough. I ended up in East Hollywood, staying there for a few months. It’s where I made the best music of my life.”
Recorded all while down & out in LaLa Land, Marc drowned himself in mind altering substances and novels by Henry Miller while he couch surfed at a friend’s pad. The results are the East Hollywood EP. It’s an eclectic mix of bluesy R&B, hip-hop and new age funk.
