“I got a couple songs on radio right now but this is a big moment for me because Kanye West is one of my biggest inspirations,” Velous tells VIBE about creating the original beat for Kanye West’s new “All Day” single.” With the VIBE staff present, the young producer heard the final version of song being played on HOT97 by DJ Camilo this past Monday (March 2).
The 22-year-old first started on the beat while casually watching SNL one night in 2014. It wasn’t until his close collaborator, French Montana, brought the production over to Kanye along with a batch of his beats — that the composition became “All Day.”
Yeezy added a host of musicians for the final product, including Paul McCartney, Tyler Bryant, Kendrick Lamar, Karim Kharbouch, Cydel Young, Victor Mensah, Mike Dean, Che Pope, Noah Goldstein, Allen Ritter, Mario Winans, Charles Njapa, Malik Yusef Jones, Patrick Reynolds, Ernest Brown and Noel Ellis.
As an in-house producer for French Montana’s Coke Boyz imprint and Swanky Music Group, the young hitmaker made a name for himself by providing beats for the crew — but also has worked with DJ Spinking, Fabolous, Travis Scott and more. The Kingston, N.Y. native also works closely with Vinylz and Boi-1da from Drake’s camp.
Though he couldn’t say whether or not he’s working with Drizzy, the producer didn’t deny the implication either. Right now, he’s focused on releasing an album of his own.
“I have a free album coming up called The Disco,” explains Velous. “A lot of my friends call be Disco Vel. I’m dropping the new single soon called “Wishing Well.”
