Earlier this month, a video surfaced of an African American woman getting physically assaulted by Trump supporters during one of his rallies in Kentucky. The young woman was being escorted out of the venue when she was consistently badgered by bystanders and authorities failed to step in.
Now, another video has appeared, adding to the controversial nature of certain Trump supporters. A man named Rakeem Jones was also being escorted out of a North Carolina rally by officers when he was sucker-punched by a Trump supporter. In a phone interview with The Washington Post, Jones said, “After I get it, before I could even gain my thoughts, I’m on the ground getting escorted out. Now I’m waking up this morning looking at the news and seeing me getting hit again.”
Jones was with four other friends at the time of the incident who came to his aid when authorities detained him instead of the suspect who assaulted him, an occurrence that Jones said is a common thing at Trump’s rallies. “It’s happening at all these rallies now and they’re letting it ride. The police jumped on me like I was the one swinging,” he said. “My eye still hurts. It’s just shocking. The shock of it all is starting to set in. It’s like this dude really hit me and they let him get away with it. I was basically in police custody and got hit.”
