Rachel Dolezal took to Facebook on Monday (June 15) announcing her resignation from the NAACP’s Spokane Chapter presidency.
In the midst of her “transracial” controversy, social media exploded in a nationwide debate on racial identity after Dolezal, the 37-year-old President of the NAACP’s Spokane chapter falsely presented herself as a black woman.
“It is with complete allegiance to the cause of racial and social justice and the NAACP that I step aside from the Presidency and pass the baton to my Vice President, Naima Quarles-Burnley,” she wrote in the post.

She said that she would continue to fight for human rights and that “it’s not about her, but justice.”
After her parents revealed last week that Dolezal was passing as black for years, but is actually of Czech and German descent, many questioned her morale and competency for holding such a prominent position in the black community.
Pictures that ensued after her parents’ claims showed an obvious physical transition from Dolezal’s childhood to adulthood, from her hair texture to skin color. The frenzy that hit national news compromised not only her place at the NAACP, but also her position as adjunct professor of African-American studies at Eastern Washington University.
