Ray Rice is appealing the hammer dropped on him by the NFL after previously being penalized with a two-game ban this past June. Following the release of the disturbing footage in which he assaulted his wife, Rice’s punishment was upped to an indefinite suspension from the league, a punishment he will try to prove unfair.
Rice will also reportedly point to video edits made by TMZ during his hearing. According to ESPN, Rice will hold that TMZ’s footage was “a cleaned-up, whittled down and condensed version of the events that took place in the Atlantic City casino elevator.” TMZ posted a response to Rice’s claim:
Ray Rice will reportedly argue that TMZ Sports edited the “inside the elevator” video … thereby altering what really happened that night.
He’s right. We did edit the video … and we made that point crystal clear in our original post — the same post where we also INCLUDED the raw unedited version showing Rice KOing Janay Palmer.
As we initially reported, the original raw video was jerky — in that it would move forward and then in reverse every couple of frames … so we removed the reverse frames.
Again, TMZ Sports included the raw video in our original post.
Robert Mueller, who has been appointed to oversee the appeal proceedings, will have access to both the original and edited versions of the assault footage.
