A day after his wife Janay Rice spoke her piece on their fateful elevator incident, a Today show interview with Ray Rice is also released. In his conversation with Matt Lauer, Rice discussed wanting to protect his wife, and his hopes for a second chance in the NFL. He also responded to criticism for failing to publicly apologize to Janay in their initial press conference. “We were given what to speak about,” he said. “It wasn’t truly coming from us, if you can understand, but I made that clear in my last time I was able to speak that my wife is an angel. She can do no wrong. I take full responsibility for my actions.” SEE ALSO: Janay Rice On The ‘Today’ Show: ‘God Chose Me And Ray To Bring Awareness’ And while Rice remarked that his wife is “independent” and would be able to fend for her family if he did not return to football, the former Ravens running back did discuss the prospect of being signed to a new team. “They would have to be willing to, you know, look deeper into who I am and realize that me and my wife had one bad night, and I took full responsibility for it,” he said. “And one thing about my punishment and everything going along with anything that happened is that I’ve accepted it.” Watch the full interview in the video.
