In the wake of these revolutionary times, consciousness is becoming a central unification for those in communities of color. Police brutality, the growing disparity between rich and poor, and the misrepresentation of individuals of color, the LBGTQ community, and lower class families within America are hot button issues. Russell Simmons seems to have a shiny two cents to give to the people.
Yesterday the hip-hop mogul visited Dorsey High School in Los Angeles, giving a motivational speech to 500 students about the critical times we live in, and what we can do as a people to unify and respect one another. Simmons’ main objective is to increase the peace, respect the police, and “when they show up, you gotta shut up,” he advised. “How you respond to him is gonna feed how he responds to you.” Russell had the students sign a pledge that planned to establish peace in their everyday lives. With this approach to peace in the community is reminiscent of the prominent past leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., we hope it brings some enlightenment.
