On Thursday (Sept. 13.) Russell Simmons relaunched his Argyleculture menswear collection at a NYC party spun by DJ Cassidy. Present for the New York Fashion Week event were his ex-wife Kimora Lee Simmons, niece Angela Simmons, TV personality AJ Calloway, singers Teairra Mari and Emily B, and many stars.
This is the third time Simmons has introduced the world to his men’s label. After two slow starts, the hip-hop mogul has re-teamed with famed menswear designer Joseph Abboud and the HMX Group to recreate the Argyleculture brand.
The new preppy looks are designed for the “Urban Graduate” — Simmons’ term for “a consumer bred in the hip hop culture, now mature and successful in his or her own right.” Think slim khaki pants, Oxford shirts, blazers, newsboy hats, lots of sweater vests, and yes, argyle. The Ivy League looks are reminiscent of the classic American looks and Waspdom for which Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger are known. The new line has been called “preppy on steroids” by its designers.
“Argyleculture is committed to represent a modern American — millennium mindset that approaches the world from a multi-racial, yet singularly cultural perspective,” a press release for the brand read.
The clothes will be available online at Argyleculture.com, as well as in Macy and Belk department stores this month.
