Shanda Flemming is on a mission for answers after her son returned home from school with three teeth missing.
The Baltimore City mother told WJZ that she was blindsided after signing a permission slip for what she thought would’ve been a routine cleaning. “They just said they was gonna clean my teeth,” nine-year-old Michael said in between tears.
Instead, the third grader was left with a swollen mouth after serious dental work, which ran overtime and caused him to miss his school bus. “He walked home alone after having three teeth extracted from his mouth,” his mom said of his mile-long trip. “He could have fell out or anything.”
Baltimore Public Schools declined the news station’s request for comment on the matter, leaving Flemming to grapple with the aftermath of the event. “I just don’t understand how a school or a company can take it in their hands to do something like this to a child.”
