Hotly tipped Goldroom put on a funky and hip live show at Brooklyn’s Rough Trade, Wednesday, June 25. With tickets to both last night and Saturday’s sold-out for months show at the Bowery, it was a special moment to see So-Cal’s Josh Legg, further cementing his spot on VIBE’s ‘Top 10 Indie-Electronica Acts‘ list last year.
The mastermind producer and face of Goldroom along with the tour band, including Australian electro pop darling Chela, played an eager NYC. A style that can be best described as a mix of disco and chillwave, Goldroom’s music feels like cruising down the 101 with the top down and zero cares in the world.
As the music venue quickly filled with an eclectic mix of music fans, opening band Brett set a super tone for the night with their electronic synthpop-style tunes and infectious energy. When Goldroom came out, the crowd went wild and the band delved right into their set with new music and fan favorites including “Only You Can Show Me” and “Sweetness Alive”. When the band played “Fifteen” and “Adalita”, tracks for which Chela recorded the original vocals, the energy became explosive as her ethereal vocals enveloped the crowd.
It was obvious that Chela definitely has her own cult following of fans. Closing out the show with the massive “Embrace” from the new album left the fans cheering and wanting more. The band came out for an encore and performed two more tracks, finishing the show on a high note.
Goldroom continues the live tour in cities including D.C. and Boston. Although Saturday’s Bowery show is sold out, Goldroom’s Josh Legg will be back to play a DJ set at Verboten on July 31. Tickets available here. Check out Goldroom’s latest mix, below.
