When funny man Kenan Thompson spoke up about the lack of black comediennes “ready” for Saturday Night Live, social media was up in arms. Kerry Washington even addressed the controversy in a sketch during her SNL hosting session.
Last December, the NBC show held a secret audition in New York specifically for black female comedians. From the looks of things, Sasheer Zamata is the one who made the lasting impression.
Zamata, the newest addition to the SNL family, is the first female cast member of color since Maya Rudolph left in 2007. The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre comedienne and University of Virginia alumna will make her big debut on Jan. 18, the same day Drake will be the musical guest.
Claps all around for Ms. Zamata! Check out some of her work below.
