Stan Van Gundy, the former Orlando Magic coach, is known for speaking his mind. The Orlando Sentinel spoke to Van Gundy today on the topic of Lakers coach Mike Brown, who was fired Friday just five games into the season. And Van Gundy spit the truth.
Van Gundy said it was “the most ridiculous firing in the history of the NBA,” and called it “absurd.”
He said: “Why did they bring him back? They changed the entire staff, changed his offense, got two new players (Dwight Howard and Steve Nash), have had guys hurt since day 1 and gave him five games to get it going.”
Van Gundy was fired last season after his relationship with new Lakers center and former Magic center Dwight Howard deteriorated. When the paper reminded Van Gundy that he could be a candidate for new Lakers coach, he joked: “I’m sure I’m at the top of their list.”
