After less than 24 hours of feuding on social media, Steve Madden is backtracking on his negative comments about Nicki Minaj. The head of the popular fashion brand hopped on Twitter early Wednesday morning (Oct. 31), to compliment Nicki and hope she and Cardi B “reach some peace” in their ongoing feud.
“.@NICKIMINAJ is an incredibly talented artist but we couldn’t work together cuz the timing wasn’t right,” he tweeted. “@iamcardib came on the scene and I had a fantastic collaboration with her, and she is also an amazing talent.”
He also noted that he believes the two will be stronger working together than against one another. “I love both @NICKIMINAJ and @iamcardib music,” he continued. “I hope they can reach some peace — together they could probably take over the world. There is a lot of negativity out there right now, and I shouldn’t have contributed to that.”

As previously reported, Madden’s comments come briefly after Nicki and 50 Cent fired shots at the fashion executive for lying about offering a previous deal to Nicki a couple of years ago. Madden originally claimed Nicki was a liar in order to assist Cardi B in the rappers’ beef concerning sponsorship deals. VIBE reported on the collaboration that fell through in a 2015 interview, in which Madden admitted that he wished he had collaborated with Nicki at the time.
Nicki later responded to Madden, saying: “Eat a d**k n***a. You lied on me cuz it was the trendy thing 2do! Ain’t nobody buyin that clown shit. We couldn’t work together cuz I said the shoes were ugly. You see how when you do clownery it comes back to bite?”
Moral of the story: brands shouldn’t get involved in hip-hop feuds. Also, if you’re going to speak up, make sure your receipts are in order.
