A&E Network will take viewers down the streets of Compton to explore the top gang affiliations in Los Angeles. Residents living in the Compton area sit down with the producers to discuss their neighborhood, known to be one of the most crime driven areas in California.
The show will depict the true story behind the rise of gangs, mainly the Crips and the Bloods, and how they grew to dominate the area.
Southern Los Angeles is home to many in hip-hop including Kendrick Lamar, The Game, N.W.A, and more who grew up in its rough, suburban streets.
N.W.A released the movie Straight Outta Compton, which showcased the hip-hop group on their rise to fame. The rap group faced a lot of controversy in L.A., with their explicit music that was considered to be gangsta rap at the time.
The Game, who’ll be featured in the doc, says he’ll always remember the streets that raised him, and made him into the man he’s today. “People have a hard time understanding how hard it is for any kid to avoid gang affiliation in Compton,’’ said the rapper. The Game has been documenting his life throughout his music for decades, namely on his The Documentary and The Documentary 2 albums.
Former residents Paul Rodriguez, Richard Williams, Anthony Anderson, Niecy Nash, The Game, current and former Compton politicians, and former gang members will make you walk through the streets of Compton.
