The legendary Roots crew and Amazon are teaming up to deliver both an animated show and a live-action show for children.
Deadline reports that Passyunk Productions, the hip-hop group’s production company, will be bringing South Street Sounds to the streaming platform. The animated series will follow three friends named Zora, Nick and Tyson, who “pride themselves on playing gigs for any occasion” with their band “South Street,” which was formed in “the most musical of neighborhoods.”
No details have been released about the live-action show, and South Street Sounds is only the working title of the animated show.
“As we venture into the world that is film and television production, we couldn’t think of a better partner than Amazon to help us develop these first two children’s projects,” said Roots drummer, Questlove.
“Our love for music started as young kids, and we hope to inspire a generation of future artists, musicians and music fans through the stories we tell and the music they hear on these shows,” said Black Thought.
This is sure to be an incredible endeavor that many kids (and their parents) should enjoy!
