In Leicester, North Carolina, a married couple nearly missed a huge pay day. According to WLOS, a woman named Glenda Blackwell pleaded with her husband, Buddy, to not waste money on a Powerball lottery ticket.
In order to show her husband that buying a ticket would be meaningless, she spent $10 on a scratch-off as a means of “teaching him a lesson.” But what she received in return probably had her husband smiling from ear to ear.
The Blackwells became $1 million richer after Glenda, 57, saw her winnings, which ultimately rounded out to $415,503 after taxes. “I had to eat my words, but they were worth eating,” she said. “I was very happy.”
With a plan of action already in motion to utilize their winnings, Glenda shared that they can “buy our own home and our own land. It’ll be paid for, and I don’t have to worry about that no more… The other part I plan to help my daughter and to put money up for my two granddaughters for college.”
