With players kneeling during the National Anthem and the “ringleader” of the movement Colin Kaepernick as the newest face of Nike’s 30th anniversary “Just Do It” campaign, a lot of people aren’t too happy with the NFL.
While the harmless advertisement featuring Kaepernick has drawn criticism from the same people who are upset with him for his harmless protest on the field, the company and free agent have also received tons of support. However, one person’s stamp of approval for the ad is going viral.
The New England Patriots’ star quarterback Tom Brady reportedly “liked” GQ’s reposted photo of Kaepernick’s black-and-white shot on Instagram, as well as several other photos of the advertisement posted.
Not only is this heartwarming to witness since Brady is not a Nike-sponsored athlete, he’s also a favorite player of Donald Trump, who has verbally berated players who kneel during the National Anthem. At one time, 45 and the iconic football star appeared to be very close. The ‘likes’ are no longer there, however, the Internet never forgets.
Brady told Oprah Winfrey in an interview earlier this year that seeing fellow NFL players kneel sparked “healthy conversations” in the locker room. He also said that he hopes Kaepernick “gets a shot” to play in the League again.
“I’ve always watched him and admired him, the way that he’s played,” Brady told CBS This Morning. “He was a great young quarterback. He came to our stadium and beat us and took his team to the Super Bowl in 2012. He accomplished a lot in the pros as a player. And he’s certainly qualified, and I hope he gets a shot.”
