The Revenant, the gritty drama directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, may finally be the film that grants Leonardo DiCaprio the Academy Award that has eluded him for years. However, the highly-acclaimed film could’ve had a hip-hop connection if Leo and co-star Tom Hardy got their way.
In an interview with Scott Carty now going viral, Hardy explains how he wanted to use a line from Bobby Shmurda’s hit song, “Hot N*gga,” during a scene in which he attempts to bury the protagonist (DiCaprio) alive.
“Come to think of it that burial sequence was your extra little fun,” started DiCaprio. “I remember ‘extra dirt on his face,'” to which Hardy responded, “I remember saying shut your trap house as well, which never made the cut. The Bobby Shmurda line,” referring to the lyric, “If you ain’t a ho, get up out my trap house,” from the Brooklynite’s most notable effort.
This is not the first time Hardy’s hip-hop affinity came to the forefront. He was featured on 50 Cent’s Instagram page performing Dubsmashed renditions of “P.I.M.P” and “9 Shots,” rapped along to songs from the Wu-Tang Clan and went viral a few years ago for freestyling with his then-infant son. Hardy even had a recording contract during his teen years as a rapper, according to BBC.
