Actor/comedian Tracy Morgan is in critical condition after his limo bus was involved in a six-vehicle crash in New Jersey this morning (June 7).
Following an appearance at the Dover Downs casino in Delaware, Morgan’s vehicle was overturned on the New Jersey turnpike, Gregory Williams sergeant of the New York State Police department tells CNN. The crash also involved two tractor trailers and an SUV.
“The limo bus is the only vehicle that overturned,” he said. “Looks like one of the tractor-trailers may have rear-ended that limo bus, but that’s preliminary at this time.”
Also among the 30 Rock actor were seven others who were hospitalized. One person has been pronounced dead. Morgan is in intensive care at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical Care Center in New Brunswick.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the accident.
UPDATE: The driver of the tractor trailer that rear-ended Morgan’s limo bus, Kevin Roper, 35, has been charged with one count of death by auto and four counts of assault by auto. According to reports, he failed to recognize that traffic had slowed ahead of him before slamming into the vehicle carrying the comedian. He believed to have dozed off behind the wheel, authorities do not cite alcohol as the cause.
The man killed in the accident was James “Jimmy Mack” McNair, 63. He was a longtime friend of Morgan’s and also a comedian. While seven people were initially believed to have been injured, recent reports show only four.
Morgan and two other unnamed passengers are still in critical condition.
