Following a six-car accident on the New Jersey turnpike yesterday morning (Jun. 7), actor Tracy Morgan is showing signs of improvement, although he has suffered extensive injuries. Morgan’s rep Lewis Kay updated ABC News on his status.
“While Tracy remains in critical condition, he has been more responsive today, which is an incredibly encouraging sign,” he said.
According to Kay, Morgan suffered a series of broken bones: leg, femur, nose and several broken ribs, along with other bodily damage.
“He had surgery earlier today on his leg,” he said. “We expect him to remain in the hospital for several weeks. His family is tremendously overwhelmed and appreciative of the outpouring of love and support from his fans.”
“I climbed around and heard Tracy screaming for help,” he said. “I climbed up on the body of the limo bus […] but I couldn’t reach them.”
The driver of the tractor trailer that rear-ended Morgan’s limo bus charged with one count of death by auto and four counts of assault by auto. He reportedly dozed off behind the wheel before realizing traffic has slowed in front of him.
The man killed was James “Jimmy Mack” McNair, who was a longtime friend of Morgan and fellow comedian. Morgan is expected to remain in the hospital for the coming weeks.
