Tracy Morgan’s tragic car accident last June resulted in the loss of his friend and traumatic brain for the beloved comedian, but he is finally making his way back to his old self. Morgan took the stand-up stage for the first time since the incident for a surprise set at New York City’s Comedy Cellar on Monday night (Oct. 12).
Morgan posted a photo from the appearance on Twitter, writing that he is still “picking up the pieces.”

Morgan made his first televised appearance last month at the Emmy Awards. Delivering an emotional speech about his “long road back,” the comedian ended with a quip about feeling like himself again and warning that “women gonna get pregnant at the after-party.” He is scheduled to make his triumphant return to Saturday Night Live this weekend (Oct. 17). According to Refinery29, Morgan’s show at the Comedy Cellar included jokes about his speech therapy following the accident, and smoking too much weed.
According to TMZ, Morgan also did a second show at NYC’s The Stand. Here’s to the comedian getting back to what he loves to do: make people smile.
