Seriously, is there any doper way to find out you’ve been accepted to USC than a video from Dr. Dre?
Recent students accepted into the University of Southern California not only received the news of a lifetime, they received it from Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine. Masquerading as a simple “message from dean Erica Muhl” email, those who made the cut found an attached video message from the music industry dynamic duo.
“The Trojan family is excited to offer you a spot in the class of 2018,” Dr. Dre says in the video. “We think you’re going to do great here,” Iovine adds.
Dre and Iovine founded the USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation last year after a hefty $70 million dollar donation to the university. The program will aim to allow young minds to push the envelope, employing the slogan, “THE DEGREE IN IN DISRUPTION.”
“The vision and generosity of Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young will profoundly influence the way all of us perceive and experience artistic media,” USC President C. L. Max Nikias writes in a statement on the program’s site. “USC provides an extraordinarily rich academic, research and artistic environment. We are committed to encouraging our students to use their intellectual and creative resources to effect change in all segments of society. Our goal is to ensure that the Academy is the most collaborative educational program in the world.”
Dr. Dre and Iovine’s video message was in line with the students’ application process which included the submission of a short video pitch for an original product, service or system. The actual welcome video has not been released as yet, but in meantime peep their 2013 USC Commencement Speech here.
