Custo Barcelona has always been known for using colors and patterns that would make Liberace blush, but this season’s line pushes limits even further.
The only way to describe the collection is “an acid trip through a Lewis Carroll dreamed-up world.” Custo has a witty logic to his designs, and for spring, the architecture-trained Spaniard used lace to create technicolor dresses that looked not unlike dyed doilies pasted together.
“Fantastically bright!” said fashion-minded songbird Estelle of the collection, as she watched from the runway front row at Fashion Week. “A real treat to see [such] a [vivacious] collection.”
The men’s collection showed a similar joyous lack of restraint, with lipstick patterned suits appearing on the runway along with mismatched neon patterns that could have made Helen Keller squint. –Adrien Field
