Swimwear made a deep impact at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, with a jaw-dropping display from Rosa Chà.
The Brazilian label has always been known as the swimwear par excellence for the attention-starved, but this season overt sexiness was traded for a more sophisticated yet sensuous approach. It was the first season since creative director Alexandre Herchcovitch took the reins, and the transition was seamless.
The collection is the equivalent of that white couch you were never allowed to sit on as a kid–it’s just there to be admired. Crystal appliqués were used liberally in the first set of looks, patterned to give a polka-dot effect, which makes a statement without being gaudy (though less practical).
Rosa Chà’s latest stood out in its construction, from the structured, bustier tops to quilted fabrics. It’s beautiful swimwear for beautiful girls who don’t swim. —Adrien Field
