Va$htie Kola is no newbie to street culture. Being an imaginative entrepreneur, working for the likes of Pharrell, Lupe Fiasco, and Theophilus London, the upstate New York native has become downtown’s sweetheart. Also a video director and artist, Va$htie is the fashion-forward mastermind behind her own signature brand VIOLETTE which was launched in 2008. More recently however, she’s proven that she can run with the big boys. Literally. The busy 29-year-old’s kicking down barriers with the first ever female collaboration with Nike Jordan.
Starting October 2, sneaker stans can cop the Lavender “Air Jordan 2” that was designed by the trendsetter. With contrasting purple undertones and a metallic midsole, the color is about the only thing that’s feminine about this shoe, which brings a sweet remix to masculinity. Although we can’t be sure whether the guys will be rocking Va$htie’s signature kicks anytime soon, there’s no doubt young female moguls-in-the-making will. —Niki McGloster
