On Sunday night (Oct. 7), DJ Scheme had some pointed words for Chicago MC Vic Mensa on Twitter, claiming that the “Metaphysical” MC criticized deceased musician XXXTentacion during his freestyle at the 2018 BET Hip-Hop Awards.
“Vic Mensa is the most pu**y b**ch in the rap game fam..” he wrote. “…Accusations are different from someone admitting to f**king domestic violence.” X was plagued by domestic and sexual abuse allegations prior to his death. The “Sad!” MC’s mother Cleopatra Bernard was reportedly in attendance, and X won a posthumous award for “Best New Hip-Hop Artist.”
Despite the comments, Mensa is standing by his bars, and took to Instagram to express himself further.
“Recently, I did a freestyle for the BET Awards cypher addressing and condemning rappers who unabashedly abuse women, and those who stand up for them, and even call them ‘legends,'” he said. “I stand behind those statements.”
He continues by stating that the cypher was prerecorded weeks ago, and he offered his condolences to Bernard for her loss, for he did not know she would be in attendance. XXXTentacion was murdered in June at the age of 20.
“I never intended to disrespect [Bernard] and offer my deepest condolences for her loss at the hands of gun violence,” he continued. “However, I vehemently reject the trend in hip hop of championing abusers, and I will not hold my tongue about it. …I care about holding people accountable for their actions.”
