Vince Staples has never been one to hold his tongue, and MTV News kept that in mind when they recruited him to discuss some of the biggest hip hop news in 2015, starting off with one of the biggest breakups of the year- Lil Wayne and Birdman.
“The saddest thing that happened this year in rap was watching Lil Wayne and Birdman fall out,” Nadeska Alexis said to the possible Oscar contender over a plate of french fries and kale (which is not his favorite, but he’s “doing it for the kids”).
“I think that was great,” he said with a smile. “They’ve had a troubled past, you know, a very interesting history.” As we know, Tunechi tweeted his pleas to get taken off of the Cash Money label for the delay of his Tha Carter V album late last year, and he reportedly planned to sue his former mentor earlier this year. Although there seems to be extreme turmoil in the once dynamic duo’s relationship, Staples finds the whole thing very entertaining.
“All love stories come to a sad end,” he chuckled. “It’s like Titanic!”
When asked if he thinks Wayne will officially throw in the towel at Cash Money, The Cali MC voiced his uncertainty. However, there is one thing he’s hoping to hear from the No Ceilings 2 rapper.
“I don’t know what paper Lil Wayne signed, but I know that we need another ‘Lollipop.'”
Staples also discussed why Twitter is the root of all hip hop problems, the amount of ghostwriters in the industry, Meek Mill’s multiple beefs and that “we need more Adele.”
“Everybody is in the Adele fan club,” he exclaimed. “I definitely get Adele emails, and I’m dead serious too.”
