Will Smith—actor, musician and all-around amazing person—turns 50 years old today (Sept. 25). To celebrate his half-century earth strong, the Grammy-winner teamed up with the Yes Theory YouTube channel to broadcast his jump out of a helicopter over the Grand Canyon. Smith also joined forces with Omaze to make his big leap a fundraising affair.
“The site launched a lottery for a fan to be chosen to witness the jump and meet Smith,” writes the Associated Press.
AP writes that despite being advertised as a jump “in the heart of the Grand Canyon,” Smith is jumping from a helicopter over a small gorge on the Najavo Nation, which is found in the natural wonder.
“Smith will plan to make his big leap from the Navajo Nation to walk a 5-centimeter-thick steel cable 1,476 feet (450 meters) over the Little Colorado River Gorge, just east of Grand Canyon National Park,” the site reads. The jump will be broadcast at 3 p.m. PST/6 p.m. EST via Smith’s YouTube page, and his good friend and former Fresh Prince of Bel-Air co-star Alfonso Ribeiro will serve as the host for the big event.
Smith has been advertising his big jump on his Instagram page, and recently showed fans the helmet he purchased for the occasion.
