First, Missy Elliott got us all kinds of hype with her Super Bowl XLIX appearance. Now Will Smith gives us the illest throwback with an impromptu performance of his single, “Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It” on The Late Show With David Letterman.
While Smith made his entrance onto the stage, the show’s live band began to play the jingle and, to everyone’s surprise, Smith grabbed the mic and began spitting some of those lyrical rhymes we once bumped to while leaning out of the passenger side of our friend’s low-rider. Ok maybe, we weren’t all doing that, but he did take us back to the good days.
After Smith’s performance, he was asked if he would return to the music industry. While he never technically answered the question, we’re looking forward to more impromptu performances from him after he said, “You know every time there’s a microphone and I do it [perform], it just really gets me excited.”
Smith then talked about his family and how dramatic the outspoken Willow Smith is at the age of 14. He also spoke briefly about staying in shape for his new movie Focus, explaining that staying fit is more of a lifestyle at his age.
Before Smith left the stage, he said good-bye to Letterman, who is leaving the show in May, by listing off the top 10 things he’ll miss about David Letterman, leaving us laughing, but teary eyed as the days get closer to Letterman’s final goodnight. Watch some of the epic moments from Smith’s visit.
