Will Smith might be the next entertainer hitting the campaign trail. During a recent interview with CBS‘ “Sunday Morning,” the movie star said that he may follow in the footsteps of Kanye West and run for president in the near future.
According to Smith, the plethora of ridiculous statements that have been made this election season (à la Donald Trump) have him considering a bid for the White House.
“If people keep saying all the crazy kinds of stuff they’ve been saying on the news lately about walls and Muslims, they’re going to force me into the political arena,” he said.
When pressed for clarification about which sector of politics he’d like to get involved in, the 47-year-old actor made it clear that a seat in the House of Representatives or Senate just won’t do.
“What else would I run for?” he said. “Come on, keep it real.”
Big Willie isn’t the only one trying his hand at politics. Waka Flocka Flame sought the now-filled Speaker of the House position in October and Yeezy infamously announced his candidacy for president during MTV’s 2015 Video Music Awards. Though Smith hasn’t decided to run as of yet, if he actually wins, he’d join Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ronald Reagan in the elite group of entertainers who’ve left the movie set for the campaign trail.
