Barbie turn 60 years old this year, and to coincide with International Women’s Day on Friday (May 8), the iconic doll line is rolling out 20 new faces for their “Sheroes” collection. Some of the newest additions are very familiar and very inspiring indeed.
Among the newest dolls -who are inspiring women between the ages of 19 to 85- are actress Yara Shahidi and tennis superstar Naomi Osaka. The grown-ish star’s doll wears a gray suit and a “vote” graphic tee, similar to the outfit she wore to 2018’s We Vote Next Summit.
“I’m honored to be repping all the young ones as a Barbie Role Model,” wrote Shahidi of her Barbie honor on her Instagram page. “Let’s continue to inspire the next generation and each other.”
Osaka’s signature curly hair cascades over her doll’s visor, and she comes with a tennis racket. “It’s a really big honor,” she told People Magazine. “I’ve played with Barbies when I was a kid, and I think it’s a bit of a surreal experience to have the opportunity to have a Barbie that looks like me.”
Another featured “shero” in the collection is Adwoa Aboah, a high-fashion model from the U.K. who also runs an online community called Gurls Talk, which allows young women from all over to have discussions about mental health, self-care and more.
