After taking to the stage and proving the beauty of motherhood and pregnancy during her performance, Beyonce won a Grammy for Best Urban Contemporary album. Normally, Bey keeps her acceptance speeches short thanking her family, husband and daughter Blue. This time, with the current racial climate of the country, Beyonce read from a prepared speech explaining why she decided to create her award winning Lemonade.
“It’s important to me to show images to my children that reflect their beauty,” Beyonce said. “So they can grow up in a world where they look in the mirror first through their own families, as well as the news, the Super Bowl, the olympics, the White House as well as the Grammys.”
With a crowd full of people offering a standing ovation and cheers from her baby girl Blue, Beyonce further explained the purpose of her work is to inspire everyone–young, old, black or white, gay or straight–and let them know they are capable.
