The 2018 American Music Awards (Oct. 9) will feel like honey when Mariah Carey takes center stage at the awards ceremony, announced Tuesday (Sept. 25).
The award-winning singer will premiere her new song “With You,” the latest single off her upcoming fifteenth studio album. Recently, Carey made waves at the iHeartRadio Music Festival with a medley of her greatest hits, including her new promotional single “GTFO” that has since generated buzz on the Internet.
The 48-year-old first wowed the AMAs crowd in 1991 when she performed her New Jack Swing-flavored pop song “Someday.” The hit landed at the No. 1 spot on the pop charts; No. 3 on the R&B roster. Mimi last performed on the AMAs stage 10 years ago, singing “I Stay in Love” off her E=MC² album. The project topped the dance music charts.
That same year, Carey’s legacy was cemented in music history. The mother-of-two received a Special Honorary Award for clocking 18 No. 1 singles, one of which holds the record for most weeks spent at the top spot. To date, Carey has won 10 AMA trophies. This includes a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2000, not too long after she became the only artist to have a No. 1 single in each year of the 1990s decade.
This year’s performers include Khalid, Halsey, pop-dance producer Benny Blanco (Justin Bieber, Rihanna), and pop-rock band Imagine Dragons. Actress Tracee Ellis Ross will host this year’s AMAs, live on Oct. 9 at 8 p.m ET on ABC.
