Catching a slight cold from recently closing out his two month, 26-date “The Ascension Tour,” Miguel brought all his fuzzy guitar riffs, leather, sex appeal and electric energy to the Avant Gardner in Brooklyn on Thursday (Oct. 4).
The intimate show was exclusively for fans, with the 32-year-old star allowing the city that inspires him to call the shots. Fans were given the chance to vote on the songs they wanted to hear Miguel perform, curating an extremely personal setlist and unforgettable night. For those who missed Miguel on the road this summer, the surprise show was a treat.
VerizonUP and iHeartRadio sponsored the show, with VerizonUP members being treated to an open bar and special VIP sections.
Miguel promptly took the stage at 8 p.m., after an hour-long DJ set maintained the vibes. Wowing the audience with an incredible rendition of “All I Want Is You,” the night was off to a great start, with the crowd synchronously taking the mic for the song’s most chant-worthy moment.
For the first half of the show, Miguel alternated between live renditions of some fan favorites and speaking with iHeartRadio and 103.5 KTU’s Carolina Bermudez to questions such as his favorite NYC memory (creating a majority of 2012’s Kaleidoscope Dream) and the future collaborations he craves (pull up, Daniel Caesar and Jessie Reyez).

With psychedelic visuals to match his contagious colorfulness, Miguel kept the party going with an upbeat delivery of “Waves,” a standout track on his 2015 release Wildheart. With a knack for air guitar and moves that kill, Miguel’s suave demeanor bounced around stage, rockin’ the crowd with his wild heart and glistening smile.
Miguel later turned down the lights and shed his leather jacket before performing soulful renditions of War & Leisure’s “City of Angels” and “Banana Clip.” It was on.

Boasting a silky smooth voice, performing comes naturally to Miguel, who went on to gift fans with an amped up delivery of “Sky Walker,” before breaking down the creative process of “Come Through and Chill,” blessing fans with a sensual performance of “Caramelo Duro,” and closing the show with “Pineapple Skies.”

Though the set only lasted about an hour, the night was capped with some unforgettable moments and an excellent vibe.
Up next for Miguel is a full-length spanish album. Announced during Power 106 LA’s annual PowerHouse concert back in May, Miguel is gearing up to get in touch with his roots and bless fans with a full length latin LP and I’m ready.
