Tony A. Gaskins Jr is technically not suppose to be here. His environment coupled with his life choices primed Gaskins to become a casualty not a CEO.
As the son of a former pastor, the Florida native grew up in a small town where the only options for success included narcotics, becoming a football player or earning a small wage. Beating the odds, Gaskins would earn a full football scholarship but soon became distracted with women and the allure of fast money that selling drugs provided. He was eventually kicked out of school and used his illegal occupation to keep his financial head above water.
Now Gaskins sits a top his multi-million dollar throne as a husband, father, author, life and relationship coach. With nearly a social media following of 2.5 million, Gaskins tours the world over offering nuggets of common sense wisdom that has helped change the direction of his life.
“Instead of working on how many dollars I can make, I started with how many people I can help,” Gaskins said.
At the 2016 Essence Festival, Gaskins was on hand to speak to a room full of journalists, bloggers and other influencers at the Ford Motor Company Media Dinner held at the spacious Mardi Gras World. Fully embodying the car company’s unstoppable brand statement, Gaskins made it clear how imperative it is to sit in the driver’s seat of your own life.
“If you don’t build your dream, someone will hire you to build theirs,” Gaskins said.
