
The 2017 Academy-Award nominations were announced Tuesday morning, (Jan. 24) and some of our favorite performances from the year’s best films rightfully earned a nod.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, La La Land lead the pack with 14 nominations, tying with the 1950’s film All About Eve and 1997’s Titanic. Second to the Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone musical is Barry Jenkins’ Moonlight, which received eight nominations including best director and best picture.
Right behind Moonlight is the August Wilson adaption Fences, which earned four nominations. The Denzel Washington directed movie about a garbage man in 1950s Pittsburg also stars How To Get Away With Murder’s Viola Davis who earned a nomination for best supporting actress and took home a Golden Globe award for the same category. To round out all the melanin that received nominations this years is , which also has a chance of taking home the Oscar for Best Picture.
