EA’s Andrew Wilson wrote on the official EA Sports blog, “Having continued to look at the game over the past few days, it’s clear that we won’t be ready in October. And rather than launch midway through the season, we’re going to sit out the full year and stay focused on making next year’s game great.”
This is the second time in recent memory that EA has placed its basketball sports title on the bench. In 2010, EA attempted to reinvent the wheel, titling the series as NBA Elite ’11, but that game was cancelled literally a week before its release, and elements of that game were reported carried over to NBA Live ’13. From Wilson’s post, it seems as if what exists in this current iteration will carry over into NBA Live ’14.
At least it’s just the game that’s cancelled, and not the whole series. But when will we see EA Sports and 2K Sports resume their head-to-head matchups?!
